Why microcement for bathrooms?
Microcement gives bathrooms a continuous, joint-free finish in 2–3 mm thickness. It bonds directly over existing tiles, plaster or concrete — meaning faster renovations, no demolition dust, and a contemporary look that's easy to maintain.
What a microcement bathroom actually looks like
One surface, no grid. Walls, floor and shower area run together in a single 2–3 mm mineral finish, so the room reads as volume rather than as a pattern of tiles. Niches, benches, steps and vanity fronts can all be carried in the same finish, and the colour is chosen from the full palette — matt, satin or gloss, from soft off-whites through greige and sand to deep slates.
Because there is no grout, there is nothing to discolour and nothing to scrub. That is the practical reason most homeowners move to it, and the reason it keeps looking new for longer than a tiled equivalent.
Straight over your existing tiles
Over sound, well-fixed tiles the build-up is a specialist primer followed by two coats of fibre-reinforced Microbase, then the finish coats and the sealer. Nothing comes out, nothing goes in a skip, and floor levels barely change. Loose, cracked or damp tiling is the exception — it has to be made good first, and that preparation is the most variable part of any bathroom quote.
Wet rooms, showers and slip resistance
Sealed with 2-component polyurethane, the finished surface is water-resistant — one continuous skin with no joints to fail. In wet rooms and walk-in showers we go further and specify the two-part SubVap waterproofing mortar beneath the microcement. Shower trays, wet-room floors and steps take Micronoslip, a Class 3 slip-resistant texture, while walls and the surrounding floor stay in the smoother Microfinishing — same colour, same continuity, different underfoot.
